I am wondering if anyone has done any voluneer work abroad with either children or in a wildlife sanctuary. I'd love to do something for a few weeks (the only time I could afford to take off) in a different country. I have had alook at some websites (ie ecovolunteer and i-i) which seem to be quite expensive. Any ideas? Thanks.

My mum is currently in south africa looking after lion cubs for 2 weeks and then working in a monkey sanctuary for another 2. Its witha company called I to I, it is technically volunteer work but you have to pay for flights and a few extras. Very good experience and she had previously worked in a penguin sanctuary too.
I did voluntary work with VSO in Nepal a few years ago, But I think you have to to a three year stint. you get a living allowence while your there and shouldnt cost you anything. some employers will give you a leave of absence to go and do this kind of thing. Great IF you dont have any commitments.
