Do it, then the snails and slugs will have several plants to have a go at.
Autumn to mid spring recommended but with the late spring this year you might just get away with it.
I think you can do it at any time of the year, they're pretty tough plants.

I've got so much blue slug killer on them I hope not. The slugs had started on my sweet peas so I put some on them and the next morning dead slugs.Mind you I did feel mean.
Dead slugs=dead birds.:-(

I put them in the bin.
Here in the western U.S., we've divided them almost every part of the year (xcept winter) an never had a problem...
