New SIM card can't get to work?

Hi,
I ordered an Orange SIM card and it was delivered yesterday as I'm ending my O2 contract when it runs out on 19th as I need to make some savings due to a change in circumstances.

Anyway I phoned Orange registed my SIM using the IMEI number of my O2 phone (Samsung D500) - I've tried to use the SIM (i.e. activate it) in the phone but it won't work as I think it's locked. So I paid an online company to unlock it which I followed the procedure and it she won't work. I've tried putting the SIM in other phones and again it won't work (and I've been told by one website that D500 is unlockable!).

What can I do? Because I used the D500 IMEI number does that mean the initial activation (i.e. delete the 3 messages that come through) has been done on that phone or can I just get another phone to put it in? If so do I have to contact Orange to change the IMEI?

I'm so confused with all this ... I thought it would be as simple as putting the new Orange SIM in my phone and it working!!

Thanks

take it into your local orange shop, they should help you out
talk to O2.
Usually their phones aren't locked, but this one seems to be. Not sure specifically with O2, but I know with Vodafone they'd unlock the phone for you at the end of your contract if you asked (free) or if you had a PAYG one and you'd topped up enough on it since you'd had it.
Worth a try.
