I can not open my hotmail can not log in to it, yet I can open any other web sites no problem how come just had to install windows ex home edition because I ve definately had a virus which completely sent the comp haywire has the re installation caused the settings etc to stop me from getting hotmail or am I missing something

Hotmail is notorious - it can be accessed about 80% of the time. It's a real pain.
