Its now nearly two foot high - I thought rather than strim I would invest in a pair of lawn shears - any thoughts or advice please ?

IFFFFFFFFFFF and when the rain stops, you will probably find a good grass rake handy, for raking up the cut grass and also lifting the grass that's laid flat.
2ft of grass is pretty long, it's a wonder you don't have crop circles! ;-)
The grass in my garden is about the same height and there are loads of buttercups in it. If I bought wild flower seeds and sprinkled then about could I get a wild meadow look next year?
I dont think it is as easy as that Sandy, I think most of the individual wild flowers need propagating separately and at different times, well that is my experience of them anyway.
