Will I Still Be Legal?
14 Answers
My MOT runs out on 26th June but the dealership has told me they are unable to do it until the 1st July.
Will I still be able to drive my car after 26th? Someone has told me it will be OK as long as its booked in but I thought that was only for you to drive to the Dealership on the day of the MOT.
I suppose its my own fault, I should have booked earlier but I have never had a car over 3 years before.
I cant go elsewhere as I have a contract to include servicing & MOT , well I can but I will have to pay.
Any advice appreciated

I was told that if it was booked in for the MOT before the date it is due to expire you should be OK. You then get 10 working days from when the MOT is done to do any work (if it fails).
Once in the past I had a problem with this. I had booked the MOT in and the guy testing couldn't open the bonnet of the car! and wouldn't do the MOT. I hadn't booked elsewhere. They just did MOT's and didn't do repairs. When I went to a garage to get the bonnet done they said they would do the MOT aswell - it ended up costing alot and if you are under pressure with dates you have fewer choices. If the first lot had rebooked me in I would have been OK even if it was a few weeks later (thats what I was told anyway)
If you can I now think it is worth getting the MOT done earlier than required.
Some garages do services first and the MOT's but it can be a bit of a rip off if you then fail MOT they end up with more work on top. So I think it is better to get MOT done first to identify the work needed if any and not do the service until you see what the MOT flags up. I love cars but I have to admit I have made every mistake in the book and its stressful enough you don't want to add to put any more pressure on yourself.
