Absolutely - having different standards for people depending on their sexuality absolutely is homophobia. I don't understand why people have a problem with seeing two guys kissing on TV (or even in real life). Andy Hughes "something as overt as kissing"? Are you really that easily offended? As a gay men I regularly see on TV - and in my day to day life - heterosexual couples free to be physically affectionate and I think that is fine (as long as it doesn't go too far in public!). Yet if I walk down the street just holding hands with my boyfriend I am opening myself up to abuse, being accused of 'ramming it down people's throats'. That is total prejudice.
How are we ever going to get over such prejudice if people don't recognise that there are gay people in the world and as such soap operas/TV dramas ought to portray the reality of that? A soap opera such as Coronation Street has in recent years featured storylines including rape, murder, physical and mental domestic abuse... I'd far rather see something positive like a loving relationship (be it hetero- or homosexual) than a violent degrading one.
