Hello
How do I free up space on my hard drive? I keep going disk clean ups but doesn't seem to help.
The disk just seems to have got really full over the last week - never had a problem before.
Also, when I switch my computer on and sign in it comes up with a warning which says device detector. Anyone any idea on either, please?
Thanks

How old is your pc?
What operating system?
How big is the hard drive?
Good questions from hc4361 there.
First go to "Add/remove programs" or "programs and features" (depending on your Operating System). Remove any clean up or driver update programs that you may have downloaded.
I would then download and run this (beware to opt out of the 30 day trial):

Followed by this:

Do you keep a lot or large data files on you drive ? Videos maybe ? If so can you connect another drive and move them to there instead ? Are there applications installed that you never seem to use and could usefully uninstall ? Worst comes to worst you could always replace your present drive with a larger one.

No idea what your warning is though. What is it warning of ?
You should also delete all system restore points except the most recent one. This can be a real space hogger, but not knowing your OS it is pointless trying to tell you how to do it.

Videos are probably the biggest space hog - have you downloaded lot of movies?

There is an excellent free program that scans your hard drive and shows you in easy to understand which are your biggest files.

Only ever delete files and programs that you definitely know you do not need or want. Deleting files willy nilly can seriously boooga up your pc
