What other reason could there be to play a sectarian tune outside a Catholic Church ?

It is unfortunate that some value ancient practices, effectively mocking their neighbours, above good relationships, neighbourliness, and building a tolerant society today. If an annual march has to survive, and that is questionable since not all traditions are a good idea, the decent thing would be to at least not insist of marching where the residents don't want a march passing though. It is basic good manners.

I'm not condoning the violence or standing up for the Orange Order here but in fairness the contentious area is actually a main thoroughfare which passes a sectarian interface. That's part of the issue really: the communities don't live in hermetically sealed areas (thank goodness).
As for 'problems for every solution' it also shouldn't be forgotten that the Belfast agreement and Peace Process generally have in fact been studied by others as models for conflict resolution. But it doesn't matter how brilliant your peace process is: it's not merely going to wipe away centuries of division just like that

Both sides should compromise and agree that they march in those areas on alternate years. (If only they could make it up like tetjam and I did!)

It must be possible, look at how the City of Culture (Derry/Londonderry)handled it through talks and turned it into a celebration.
