I also cannot equate the Glenshee Ski Centre as being anywhere near the East of Scotland. The river at the back of my house isn't frozen, [ok...it's tidal] but the temperature hasn't fallen much below freezing point for more than 24 hours at a stretch. -5c was its lowest. One of the mildest winters in a long time and probably all to do with global warming. I reckon average temps are at least 2c warmer than they were even 20 years ago.
Sounds as though you need to put another layer of woollies on where you are. Be good!
Ianess - I live 15 miles inland from Dundee. That is the East Coast of Scotland.I live on the main route to Glenshee, which is approx 15 miles to the north of me.The road takes you to Braemar which then takes you to Aberdeen which is North East.I have no reason to say the river is frozen if its not - the River Ericht - as I have seen it with my own eyes and local people are commenting on it.The temperature can be verified.I only used Glenshee as a marker when someone asked if I was above sea level.
I agree we have had a mild winter - I was only commenting today- that on Saturday I saw someone walking about in a vest top.
Good your area hasnt been as affected as mine - or you must be a hardy lad.Hope I've clarified some of the points you raised and hey I'm always good:)
Could you supply a map reference too drisgirl, so I can verify the weather conditions unique to your location?
I'm passing by your way over the weekend, and can bring warm blankets and a flask of soup if required, let me know.
Though of course, assuming the snow drifts aren't too high I expect 'meals on wheels' can still reach you!
Keep warm, and don't rise to the bait! :)
Stevie - Kind of gave my location away there in my fit of pique in order to justify myself (which I now know I shouldnt have to).Wish I could just count to ten like other people (no smart comments).
Can you hypothetically sit on my shoulder and be my pretend voice of reason?
I will keep warm and thanks for your concern and advice.I mean that most sincerely:)
I'll stick to being a pheasant plucker...OK?
Youre right Gef I remember those days as well - it was just a passing observation and believe it or not its not so cold tonight-Yippee!!.I have been bluddy freezing all week tho.
Ianess - My town is classed as East of Scotland - I've lived there all my life. You didnt hit a raw nerve at all - I hate having to justify myself - bad trait which I should have grown out of by now :)
When you say -5 degrees, is that Celsius or Farhenheit? To be honest, in either case that's not considered all that cold where I live. :) But if you're not used to it (and you don't have central heating), I'm sure it's pretty frosty!
A few years ago I stayed at a Pontin's in Southport for a convention. It was late April, and at night the temperature dipped below freezing (don't know the exact temp, but the pond on the property froze over). Our chalet only had a space heater (I think you call it electric fire?) to warm it up, and the stupid thing was mounted right near the ceiling! Apparently the architect wasn't familiar with the laws of physics, i.e. heat rises, so we had to sleep bundled up in fleece slacks and shirts, heavy socks, and many blankets.
-5F I think equates to around -20C and that IS seriously cold!
Were you lucky enough to catch a sight of the sea at Southport? Nice place but I don't think I'd fancy a chalet in April!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Stevie for his continued support and encouragement without which I would never have got through this cold snap.
No need to bail me out and report me - I'm looking after my pals toddlers tonight and they are now sleeping - I am Tele Tubbied.Tweenied and Scoobied to within an inch of my life.Of to to creep as quietly as poss into the bed which they will have spreadeagled but hey an inch is better than nothing.
