My husband's cold water aquarium is overrun with snails. I've tried everywhere to buy some snailaway and I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone please help him?
Years ago when we had a tropical tank we were overrun with snails that had been brought in from plants. The only solution we found to get rid of them all was to throw all the plants and boil all the gravel. Cleaning the tank itself too obviously.
I'm presuming there are too many to pick out by hand of course.
Float a lettuce leaf on the top of your tank, the snail should go for that, then just take the leaf out. I have to admit you do have to do it a fair few times to get it to work... Or remove them by hand [I used to squidge the baby ones on to the glass and then the fish would eat them].
Divegirl is right. My clients had the same problem and they put a plastic bottle at the bottom of their tank with lettuce in. Result- a bottle full of snails, which they just removed.
Divegirl and pixie373 thank you so much,it was a great idea. We have already removed a small coke bottle full of snails from the tank, Grandad_Yiddo is very grateful.
