Just watching a news item, and no matter what your opinion on the royals and royal babies...

...doesn't it make you feel OLD???

It simply doesn't seem that long ago that I was watching Diana leave hospital with William in her arms...and now it's happening all over again.

Or is it just me?

I'm with you on that...!

In my first job (I started work in October 1985) we actually had a typing pool. If we needed to send a memo around the company, we had to dictate it using a dictaphone, which would be walked up to the pool. The memo was the typed and sent back to you for correction/approval.

You would send it back, and the the corrected version would come back to you. If it was okay, a yellow copy would go into one filing system, a red copy into a another, you woulda keep the green copy in your own personal folder, and the top copy would be submitted in a brown folder which would be walked around the office and signed off as each person read it.

All this would take about four days.

Today, if I need to relay a message...I type an email and send it to the department. Takes about 90 seconds on average.
Freeing up those young ladies to do what?
I feel old too. I'm 39 and remember Diana coming out of the hospital with William. I'd thought this baby was called George? But apparently no official name yet.

I'm 62 and feel it at times, but mentally I'm still 19. I'm not a royalist but not anti royal either. I remember getting up one Sunday morning back in 1997 to hear the news that Diana was dead. I didn't know her yet I was really upset, why, I still don't know to this day. Maybe it was that she was always in the news.
I was 11 when William was born and yes I do feel old now that you've mentioned it.
It depresses me that I'll not live to see him King, OH is more pessimistic, he reckons we may not see Charles King!
On the subject of making you feel old on Saturday we went to a BBQ to celebrate my nieces youngest son's 16th birthday. It doesn't seem two minutes since me and my first girlfriend used to baby sit my niece and her twin brother.
I'm already old...ish.
I remember Charles' and Diana's wedding - also in lovely weather, which had been miserable for weeks up to the day before. We concluded God was a royalist. Though I must say putting a pregnant woman through the sort of heat we've been having recently was maybe a bit much.

I might just still be here when Prince X has his first child.
I was in France when Charles and Diana got married. We were at a campsite and they put up a screen especially for it. Near hysteria there!
sp - before your dates, but I was one of those young women in the typing pool.... the difficulties of typing up to 8 copies, with a pencil rubber eraser for mistakes (days pre-Tippex) and duplicating on a Gestetner machine, were legendary!
We brought my mum round to our house to watch Charles' and Di's wedding as my mum only had a black and white TV.............
I'm ancient, just had another birthday, seems like only yesterday I had the one before. Think I'll leave it at that before I get maudlin.
Good to see that recent events haven't led to introspection and faux surprise at the passage of time.
Maybe not living life through imaginary friends born to a life of privilege and wealth will give a better grasp of the temporal.
You what?

Sorry , manners must have dozed off,

I beg your pardon Douglas....what are you wittering on about?
ah the gestetner machine, i once put a carbon paper on it to print out, left it for a few minutes to run, came back to find a whole ream of paper up the corridor, every place you could think it, the machine had jammed, i should have watched it...
OMG I'm positively ancient. I remember when Prince Edward was born!!
You're swerving dangerously close to: "Ageing? Shouldn't be allowed!" here SP :)

It's a few steps away from "back in my day..." and "during the war..."
