3G phones

Could I buy a 3G phone in Hong Kong or China, mail it to South Aftrica and chat and see my family on it if we both use it? I don't think 3G is available there yet.

You can easily mail a new 3G phone to SA that you bought in the far east - and it will work in SA if the network you choose to run your new phone on has an international roaming deal with SA - but what is the point? You have to have your phone with an operator to provide you with a line and you have to pay for that phone line every month - it will become very complicated if its being used by your family and you have to pay for it in whatever country you are based in.
