Hi Elderly...Plymouth is the name of the company and Encore is a range that comes in everything from DK to Mega Chunky.....2st to 1 inch.
Do you have any more info?....G
The second answer down in this link might help

As remarked before, there are all thicknesses within Encore.
Have you any more info?
Ie, Plymouth Encore "somethingelse"
Also, are you in the UK? Plymouth is American/Canadian company.

I have a very nice baby blanket pattern I want to do, it requires the Plymouth Encore worked 2 strands together. The tension is 12.5 stitches and 17 rows to 10cm. Don't know what wool to get in its place.
Thanks for all your help.

Thank you ferlew. I do live in the UK. Getting myself in a mess with this question, hope I'm doing OK
Is this the blanket Elderly?

books.google.co.uk/books?id=pzUZehLmBSYC&pg=PA78&lpg=PA78&dq=plymouth+encore+baby+blanket+2+strands+together&source=bl&ots=cq7d9Zz-Eh&sig=xD72WTdgIb6DmG5aSdxkKalKs8k&hl=en&sa=X&ei=6x4GUovZLOfm7AampYCgBg&ved=0CEMQ6AEwAw
Sorry, dunno what happened there.
I think I know the pattern you mean, it has a duck sitting on a chair, right?
If so, it's Plymouth Encore Worsted, we don't have worsted weight in the UK.
The closest would be Aran weight. As it is a blanket, I don't think guage us crucial.
Any acrylic aran yarn should be fine.
Hi Elderly...you're doing fine.....For me to achieve a 10x10 cm square with 12/13 stitches and 17 rows I would have to use one strand of Chunky wool on 5.5 needles.....Don't know what two strands means unless two strands of DK.
Try googling Tips for Yarn Tensions also....x
I agree with gness, I think it's more like a chunky. If it's a blanket it won't really matter if it's not exactly true to size.
If I may? ferlew - is this what you wanted?

Thank you VERY much indeed, :)

The needles used are 8mm folks, hence I suggested Aran.

Here is a yarn comparison chart.

I have the pattern now, and it asks for yarn in a plain colour, and in a random to be knit together. Nice pattern.
