Hi, I am slowly renovating an old property and have noticed there are a couple of saplings (about an inch diameter) growing out between the concrete of the path and brickwork of the house.
Can anyone suggest how I can get rid of these without excavation. i,e, can I cut them down and then apply some substance that will kill the roots.
Some tree species can be quite persistent and continue to regrow, ie - Sycamore, Ash, Goat willow, to name a few. I would recommend 'SBK BRUSWOOD KILLER' It's a Glyphosate based herbicide, designed to tackle woody stems.
There are several brands of stump killers that will do the job, available from any DIY outlet or garden store. Scroll down to 'How to apply stump killers' here...
Thanks both. I'm so dumb I hadn't even thought there might be stuff you could buy for the job. I had in mind something I half heard years ago about old engine oil.
Thanks again.
