Is it worth the hassle of using Paypal on eBay, both buying and selling, apart from the immediate delivery of goods ?

I think so, can't say I have ever found it a hassle.

I'd just be wary to never even open an email claiming to be from PayPal, if you get one then simply log on to your account by typing the paypal site address in your browser (never use links in an email) and check the account that way.

Most people who buy goods on eBay won't even bother making a bid unless the seller accepts PayPal. (There would certainly have to be very exceptional circumstances to persuade me to bid for something if I couldn't use PayPal).

There might be a few initial hassles when you hit the limits for 'non-verified' accounts but, after that, it's a breeze!

What about if I am selling thru eBay? Do I have to have a certain amount in their account and do they take any percentages ? I like things kept simple ..

Unless you're selling massive amounts, PayPal charge sellers a commission of 3.4% + 20p for payments within the UK.

Paypal is, if you are a seller, possibly the most unpleasant and dangerous company to be involved with, as if there is a dispute of any sort between yourself and one of your buyers, they freeze the payment that the person has made and always in my experience find for the person who has made the complaint irrespective of the facts of the matter and refund them. There are those who buy on ebay and almost make a living out of bogusly claiming that goods never arrived, or were not what they thought they were or do not work, knowing full well that paypal will back them up to the hilt and they'll end up with your goods and their money back. this is despite showing them receipts, courier's advice notes etc. I now only use worldpay as paypal are a law unto themselves.

Thanks, everyone, particularly noxlumos, this is what I was afraid of. I will stick to cheques and POs I think. Bit oldfashioned, but I know where I am.

I hate paypal! I am still waiting for a refund from them 5 months down the line as I haven't received goods. The seller became NRU after the sale & paypal say they can't issue a refund because the seller has 'insufficient funds'. In the meantime I am out of pocket by �30 which not only can I ill afford, I had to buy another item as it was a present for my daughter.

As a seller I hate paypal as they extort fees ;o) it takes a week or more to transfer the money into my account from paypal, in which time the buyer expects delivery pretty much immediately (as a buyer I am prepared to wait for transfer, though!).

Cheques & POs are a favourite for me ~ I only use paypal if I have paypal funds which I can't be bothered to transfer to my bank, or if I am buying from the USA.
