I have several very good friends of the opposite sex (all married) and that is all we are - friends.
A comment on another post made me realise that not all women would be happy for their husbands to have a female friend.

I have a best friend who is a bloke. We are both happily married. It's not an issue.
I have to disagre Chill - actually it was Pixie that said that about men ALWAYS trying it on - but I find its always the women who try it on with me, bringing me iced buns, saucy texts, or pushing notes into my hand and saying let me know when your wife goes out etc etc.... Having said that, some men have tried it on with me as well over the years.

Oh lord its so hard to be humble....
It's all about circumstances and opportunity:

POTENTIAL & REALITY
A kid asks his father for help on a writing assignment. "Dad, can you tell me the difference between potential and reality?"

His father looks up thoughtfully and says, "I'll demonstrate. Go ask your mother if she would sleep with George Clooney for a million dollars. Then go ask your sister if she would sleep with Brad Pitt for a million dollars. Come back and tell me what you've learned."

The kid is puzzled, but asks his mother. "Mom, if someone gave you a million dollars, would you sleep with George Clooney?"

She giggles "Don't tell your father, but, yes, I would."

He then goes to his sister's room. "Sis, if someone gave you a million dollars, would you sleep with Brad Pitt?"

She replies, "Omigod! Definitely!"

The kid goes back to his father. "Dad, I think I've figured it out. Potentially, we are sitting on $2 million bucks, but in reality, we're living with a couple of slags".
Where does attraction come into it?

I don't find my males friends attractive and I assume the feeling is mutual.

(she says that but is in a relationship with her mate!! lol)
It very much depends on the person we are talking about. Most women know their husbands very well. "My wife doesn't understand me" in fact means the opposite. A woman will know if her husband is the kind that can be just friends with a woman and those that cannot. I am married to a cannot.
I have a female friend, who I started a sexual relationship with during a time we were both single. Realising it wasnt going anywhere, we stopped and remained just friends. Now, my current partner knows our past and struggles to accept that we remained friends. Can be awkward!!
I have many platonic male friends though it's not always clear cut as feelings may run or develop on one side or the other, doesn't mean they would be acted on though.

I've had more issues with a couple of girlfriends of male friends being unhappy they are friends with a girl.

My ex was good friends with his ex wife, they'd meet for lunch and we'd both go out for dinner/drinks with her and her partner, never bothered me.
I used to have lots of friends, all of the opposite sex. I don't know why, and there was never anything in it, but I suppose I just get on better with males. My OH didn't like it though and I'm now no longer in contact with any of them, which is a shame.
He doesn't have any female friends and, despite me saying I wouldn't have a problem with it if he did, says it's "not right". :-/
I'm single but have a very dear male friend who is married. I'm also friends with his wife. When we go for a drink and a catch up with all the news, his wife drives him to the pub/cafe and I take him home. Standing joke that he has two women running after him!
I've pretty much always had male friends, best beloved has no problems with that, I don't have any problems with him having female friends. Though he has told me that he finds women scary but I terrify him .....!
I wonder why?
Maybe it's because of QueenOfMean.

You know, her being able to shred someone?

That would probably scare me off a bit...
