His guilt or otherwise will be for a Jury to decided. But I am just glad that he has resigned from his high-profile job as Deputy Speaker. His position was untenable when he was first questioned by the police months ago.

Never helps anyone to make statements like "I will make a robust defence" or, worse, say that the charges are utterly denied or are fiction. Better to say nothing or say that the case now rests with a court and so you will reserve any comment until the appropriate time. Robust denials always sound desperate.

But he had to resign, simply because it is difficult to perform the job when you have an important matter in your private life.

To be charged with a serious offence and expect to continue in a high profile job in Parliament would have been completely untenable. My point was that he should have done what he did yesterday, many months ago.

ymg...once more we seem to agree ! There is growing evidence that the identity of people charged with serious sexual crimes should be shielded, unless that person is found guilty. The Michael La Vell case is a prime example of this.

I am not sure whether the men that Evans has supposedly attacked will be identified in court, but Evans has already had his reputation seriously dented, something he may never recover from. This can't be right, in a world where our Media has such an appetite for scurrilous gossip.
