Hi I was playing with someone and got to a par three he was just off the green and was practicing a chip shot inadvertently caught his ball on the back swing deducted one shot and replaced his ball was this correct thank for you answers ta

Yes, one shot penalty and replace the ball in its original position. The "practice swing" does not count as a shot.
Blimey, how honest can you get? I would have let him replace the ball with no penalty. (Unless he was trying to increase his handicap)
The only sport left with any real integrity. Apart from when professional footballers play it, probably.
