Usually partner and kids are ok I think or partner and Mum/friend. I think as long as people don't get in the way 2 or 3 should be fine, certainly my wife who is due in March has arranged for me and our two youngest children to be present, but that's private not sure if it's the same NHS.

I was only allowed one person in the delivery room with me but my labour progressed quickly so it could of been incase of any comlications-not sure.xx
I was told two birth partners by my hospital.

My daughters partner and my wife were present when our grandaughter was born

It all depends on the hospital's policy ~ some will only allow one person but my sister had her partner, her best friend & my parents in with her.

It also depends on how the labour is progressing. If there are compications & more staff have to come in then obviously some relatives/friends may have to leave.

My sister has three children and was allowed two named birthing partners but was only allowed one in the room at a time. I thought you could have more but it was just one person in with me. I don't think kids can go in room either but maybe that's just the policy at Stirling hospital.xx
Try asking your local hospital - each have different rules

When I had my last baby, it was just me, the midwife and student midwife. No husband there rubbing your back like he was sanding down a table!

By far the easist and most enjoyable birth for me.

When my wife had our baby she insisted on her mother as well as me ( I did try) then the midwife asked if a student midwife could stay, then a Hospital Manager ( a lady) asked could she watch and then at the birth a babaycatcher come in for the last bit. I whispered to my Wife it would be easier to put it on Sky TV and charge everyone a tenner. My Wife cannot remember the comment or even the amount of people.

@fish the mood: that sounds awful, I guess it's a good thing your wife can't remember!

I'm pregnant at the moment, and for some reason my best friend thought she would be at my birth.
I really love her to death, but there is no way, I'd have her watch that.
I haven't even made up my mind if I want my husband to be there!

Oh ca't imaginenot having my partner there. He knows me so well, and makes me feel so good aboutmysel, that he was as vital as my gas and air (my only pain relief). He knew when I needed a drink, knew when I was getting tired, when to make me laugh, changethe channel on theRadio (as I didn't want my child to be born to the sound of Justin Bloomin Timberlake!!)etc etc. We did it as a team and he felt very much part of the birth, which was brilliant. Midwife said she's seldom had so little to do in adelivery, as we needed virtually no looking after, and were the most relaxed parents-to-be she's ever had to look after! I loved the whole experience, and could not imagine doing it without my partner with me. Much as I love my Mum, I'm not a child anymore (33 when I first gave birth) so I never considered having her there, and would have been slightly concerned that my partner was going to feel edged out by Mum.
