It ahs been tough to lose weight but with alot of willpower, exercise and healthier eating it is possible.
Find a sympathetic G.P (usually a female) and get your bloods tested regularly. My G.P listens to me aswell as looking at my blood results and allows my levels to be on the slightly higher average side.It has taken about 5 years to get on the right dose as your body needs to regulate, be patient.
I have also started taking sea kelp which you can buy in a health food store and also multi vitamins and minerals as things suchas zinc and iodine are very important for people with hypothyroidism.
If you are a female of childbearing age I will say make sure they keep a very GOOD eye on your blood levels when pregnant.
People with hypothyroid are also prone to anaemia so make sure your vits have an iron supplement too.
Its not EASY to lose weight but as I said it is possible with alot of willpower but don't expect results over night.

I was diagnosed with this recently, about three months ago now.I am on this drug ..only 75mcg at the moment but am being monitored. A lot depends on your GP.I put on an awful lot of weight due to this condition and the medication alone will not make you lose that weight. It will help the thyroid trouble but weight loss is down to you ! Luckily my GP is very supportive and advised me to see the nurse practitioner at our surgery and I have been given a diet to follow which will also help to get my cholesterol down, which is slightly high and lose weight. You have to work with your GP on this. It all takes time.
I have managed to lose two and a half kilos so far..in a fortnight..by sensible eating and exercise.Which for me is hard going as I also have osteoarthritis and sometimes don't feel like doing much.I have to go every fortnight from now on to be weighed and every three months for blood tests to check the thyroid levels. I am no spring chicken either and as it is for my own good I have to try my best. Be patient and talk to your GP. As Scoop says it is not easy but I am determined to get into those clothes that are hanging in my wardrobe unworn !!
I have felt dreadful for a long time but now I know what is wrong I couldn't possibly go back only forward.
Good luck.
