Windows Update Gets Stuck On "installing Update 1 Of 24" .....
20 Answers
The problem seemed to start last night. Windows update showed that there were 24 updates (I don't know why there are so many 'cos we update regularly). Anyway, it got stuck on 1 of 24 so I clicked "stop installation". That appeared to work, until I tried shutting the computer down - it just wouldn't shut down - it kept trying to install the updates, so I had to force a shut down.
Anyway since then I've done 2 system restores and have been prompted again that there are 24 updates to install. It appears to be stuck again on 1 of 24 ...... the update is "security update for microsoft. NET framework on XP, server 2003, Vist ...... (that's all I can see of it).
Can anyone make any sense of what's going on - I left it this morning for about 4 hours and it was still on 1 of 24 ..... I'm sure the update can't take that long to install ??
I'm on Win Vista by the way .........

It's been an hour or so now and it's still on 1 of 24.
I think I'll leave it on overnight and see how it is in the morning - I reckon it'll still be on 1 of 24 ...... forever the pessimist .........

.... still stuck on 1 of 24 ...... time to do another forced shutdown then ......
I can't find the KB number soz :(
What's the solution then - don't do the updates for a week or so until Microsoft sort this out ??
I only did a system restore as I thought my laptop might have got corrupt files etc, I wasn't trying to undo the updates.
Thanks for the help by the way :)

I rebooted and the update prompt appeared again, telling me that there were 24 updates available. I decided not to install the updates, but when I tried shutting the laptop down, it tried to install them, so I had to force the laptop to shut down again.
I've now altered the settings on windows update, so that it checks for updates, but I have to install them manually ...... I'll find out if this works when I shut my laptop down again .......

.... well I think Win update has goosed my laptop.
Despite all my best efforts of several restores, reboots, altering settings in win update .... no matter what I do, every time I turn my laptop off, it tries to install the updates, just gets stuck and so I have to force a shut down.
Oh well .... I'm just gonna let my bro-in-law sort it out - he's good with these things .... it's blatantly that obvious I'm not lol :(
