Two nights ago my leg started to ache in bed, all down the outside from the thigh to the ankle. During the day yesterday it got worse, and by bedtime last night it was throbbing and I could not get comfortable no matter how I laid. I have been taking paracetamol/ibruprofen and used some Voltarol cream on it, and its a bit better now I am up and about. Can't think of anything I have done to cause it - any ideas?

Have you scratched your leg or broken the skin on it recently.May be cellulitis. Not sure of spelling.A type of blood poisoning with redness, soreness and swelling.I think antibiotics are prescribed

No nothing like that. Someone has suggested DVT - did fly last Monday but thought that would be too long ago.
I assume that your leg isn't swollen?

What on going underlying medical conditions are your suffering and what treatment are you having?

Sounds like pain from osteo-arthritis of the hip.

Extremely unlikely to be deep vein thrombosis (if that is what you are thinking)

No other conditions - relatively fit if a little overweight - was at a dog show yesterday running round with my dogs. It was while standing that it seemed to get worse and by last night it was quite uncomfortable.
Yepp.......sounds arthritic.......keep on with the Ibuprofen.

Went to a NHS walk in centre and after three opinions they have decided it is sciatica.
Sounds about right.
Upon reading your post and reading answers - I knew it was sciatica. A very painful thing - from thigh to ankle - I used it was like a hot rod down the leg. Takes a while to go away but it will go away.
