I have never bought a washer dryer before but my washing machine finally gave up tonight and I have decided I would like to look into a washer dryer.

Has anyone had a really good one that is reasonably cheap?

Do you have to have more/different piping than for a normal washing machine?

What are the drawbacks of washer dryers?

Thanks!

Hi there, I can only go from my experience.

I have a washer/dryer as I only have room for one machine. I have an indesit, had it for 3 years with no problems (touch wood!) As far as I know it plumbs in just the same as an ordinary washer, but I let the men from Currys do that!

On the whole, no problems and would recommend......
I have a Servis Washer/Dryer for same reason as above - no space for two machines. Bought from Argos four year ago for less than 200. in sale. They just plumb in the same as a washer only.
Have heard negative remarks from people who have never had one but I`ve had three over last twenty-five years with no complaint that was a direct result of being a washer/dryer.
Do you normally have a separate drier and washer or have you never had a drier?

I didnt like the washer drier as it took 3 times as long for drying than a tumble drier did and I was used to drying the first load whilst washing the second at the same time, which of course you cant do with a combined machine.
I find that if you go to your local Library and have a look at the WHICH magazine on washer/dryers they usually make my mind up for me.
we had a bendix it was useless it did not dry properly so we went back to the line outside and a seperate tumble drier
Had an indesit and it was useless, only lasted 21 months. Previous posts are right - you can't wash and dry at the same time which can be a problem, and also the drying takes longer than in a standard tumble dryer. On the plus side, they do save space, and if you don't have much washing/drying to do then they are probably OK. However, when the washer dryer broke, I spent the extra on separate appliances and haven't regretted it
Have had a Phillips/whirlpool 20yrs no problem, maybe they were built to last then.
