Can only the breeder KC register puppies, or can I, the owner at a later date?
I'm buying a miniature, smooth Dachshund from a very experienced and excellent breeder, who I trust wholly.
They are being sold slightly cheaper than usual, but without injections or being KC registered to cut the costs/price - the timing meant she had two, large litters of them at once and she feared the market may be slow. It wasn't and they're all sold luckily.
This is the first litter the breeder has sold without KC registering. I've been investigating and it seems only the breeder can fill out the form. Is this the case? The bitch will arrive with pedigree papers.
KC isn't necessary, but one day I may want to show her; I would like the option.

Like I've mentioned, I trust her, it isn't dodgy, so please don't worry about offering advice.

The breeder must register the pups. If she's that tight, give her the money; it doesn't cost all that much. They pup will then registered with her affix e.g. Bribiba and the name she registers for it e.g Fred Puli (! I promise it hasn't been taken, but a bit odd for a dachs ). So you then own Bribiba Fred Puli. If later you have your own registered affix in you can apply...

Why not just give the breeder the registration fee and ask her to register your dog, but yes I believe that it is only the breeder can register them.

I did figure that was what I'd have to do. I will take the form with me and ask whether she'd include the details of the stud and bitch. I can then complete after the micro-chipping and post.

I would have thought there would be a way for the owner to though. . .
The Kennel Club does like to see people jump through hoops unfortunately.

All very formal, all necessary and desirable should you wish to breed from /with the bitch or dog.

Thank you everyone!
I will take a form with me, ask her to fill in the left- out details and offer to post. My card details can go on the form once I'm home. Perfect!
It only costs £15 to register a puppy, so can't see why she doesn't pay it and add it on to the cost of the pups. I would check carefully that both parents are already registered, as if they are not she cannot register the litter. Are you sure the bitch is not too old to register the litter, or mated too young?
As the pup won't have a registered name yet, you can choose your own name for it, something suitably formal, or leave that to the breeder. Almost none of the KC registered dogs get called by their registered name at home; imagine yelling, say, "Come here, Heliodor Harold Hardrada at Bancroft!" at it. You would settle, in that instance for "Harry", but it's nice to have some formal input. The KC don't allow just any name, because they want to avoid possible confusion, but there's a very nice woman there who will tell you which of your choices is allowed.
Lol, my GSD is Norwulf Enrico Lankeela (Norwulf being the breeder's affix, and Lankeela mine which was added on after I bought him). When he is being naughty I do call him ENRICO LANKEELA in an Italian accent!
