...on the phone. She reckons I spend too much time on my computer. I said I don't and she said that I did and it escalated into a full row. I know its a stupid argument over nothing but it's really got me riled.

Anyone have silly arguments with family members?

tiggs - send her to visit me. I can assure you that my housework skills will make her appreciate her daughter even more. I live in chaos - I clean when I get visitors coming, I don't invite many visitors to the house.

My pals mum is like yours. She refused to go to my pal's little boys school play as it was her 'ironing afternoon' and she could not be dissuaded. Luckily my friend is feisty and can be extremely tolerant too. She has a job similar in grade to yours (EO they used to be) but only works part time and only three days, her husband works for himself and has flexible hours. You are working longer hours and that makes a difference.

I feel like you are my daughter anyway Tigger. I am very relaxed about housework. Whenever it gets to you come on and talk to us as there is a lot of sympathy for your plight.

I do have a proper clean when I'm expecting visitors which is quite rare. And yes, I am an EO and work full-time. My contracted hours are 36 but I do more like 42 with the amount of work I have to do. And living on my own with a small child is very tiring.

maybe she's jealous if she will now have to do more housework? If it was me I would say to her "Mum I am changing the subject now." and do it. If she bangs on then just lay the handset down and walk away. She can burble on and she won't upset you.

It sounds like frustration coming out on her part, plus the need to control - and you are tired. A glass of wine or half a bottle would be Dr DTC's remedy as the leopard is not going to change its spots.

Be thankful she recognises you. I got back yesterday from une verre du vin (peut-etre deux verres) and my sister was here. About twenty minutes after she had left, my mater turned to me and said, "I didn't realise that you know that woman." "Only for 54 years, Mum....."

I nearly did put the phone down on her but thought it best not to.

Not good DTC and Gness. My grandmother had alzheimers for around 7 to 8 years before she passed away. The bags under my dads eyes were more like sacks :o(

I stopped drinking several years ago but could do with a bottle of something right now!

Tigger you are way stronger than me. I give up drinking from time to time but always give in eventually. You deserve admiration for what you are achieving. Life is never fair. X
