Hi, I'm worried that I have picked up a parasite. My homepage keeps on being set to a website called getfinder.com, or globalfinder.com. Also, pop-ups for adult search engines keep appearing, and my internet connection is much slower now than it has been. In my task manager, I have numerous applicxations running: LOADWC, REALPLAY, LOADQM, MSMSGS, SYSTRAY, LXDBOXCP, PNPCHK, FMTHUNK, VSHWIN32, MSGLOOP, QTTASK. In my win.ini file, fmthunk, pnpchk and lxdboxcp are all.exe and start when windows initialises. Is there any way I can manually delete this parasite using the regedit? Or are there any downloads to tell what parasite I have got, and how to remove it? Thank you for your help.

I almost forgot: I've got windows 95, and lavasoft adaware 6 doesn't seem to work - it keeps reporting that ws2_32.dll is missing. I have no idea what that means.
Have you tried running msconfig.exe and on startup unticking all entries except systray and the registry checker one? If you want ws2_32.dll you can download it here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?
ws2_32
(dump it in c:\windows\system). You want to get adaware to work as will soon get rid of all this spyware.
This website has a [big] list of startup filenames and what they do. You should be able to identify all your processes too and see which are malevolent [and kill them]. :-) http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/task
