Gta V Online

bought this game last week and only really done bits in story mode.

I had a quick look at the online element and it seemed different to GTA 4 online whereby you cant go straight into a freeroam mode. I was immediately steered into an online race and then it wanted to put me on a mission.

Is there a way of just going into free-roam mode online?

Thanks Triggs, after positing I ventured a bit further, did the race (came 4th out of 6) and then had a mission that involved a few of us in a small mission. After that I was able to free-roam.

Looking at the GTA forums people are meeting up for specialist interest groups such as BMX riding, 4x4 etc. I notice there's not one for hiking the many bridleways of Blaine County/Chiliad. I may start one, lol!
