SKY PPV Events

Does anyone know if you can record Events from the Sky PPV Channel (ie Wrestling and Concerts) because a friend was going to record The Royal Rumble for me but now says he couldnt do it because the Channel encodes it or something.
Is this true? if so is there a way round it? If not does anyone have a copy of the Royal Rumble i could hire/buy/borrow etc
Cheers :)

Ive never had a problem recording PPV my video is hooked up to my sky box via a standard scart lead. What they can do is use a system called Macrovision to encrypt the signal if you watch it its fine but if you tape it it will not play back correctly. The same system is used on DVD's to stop you taping them at home. Now for the good news not everybody has enough scart sockets on thjeir TV at home to be able to hook up all of the AV equipment directly to the TV so you can buy a special scart lead designed to hook up a dvd through a video and this removes the Macrovision

Sky do encode some channels especially Sky Box Office as I found out a few years ago. I tried to tape The Haunting but when I watched it back the picture kept screwing up. However I tape Wrestling PPVs all the time on Sky Box Office and I've never had any problems. I think this may be to do with the fact you pay so much more money for Sports events and that they are one offs, so they dont encode them.
