A little confusing this one, was it just the Mandela jokes, seeing that was what he was arrested for?
/// Mr Phillips was arrested at his home on September 10 and was taken to a police station where he was quizzed about the postings on the Rugeley Soap Box website. ///
Or was it because a certain councillor,
/// Liberal Democrat Councillor Tim Jones was so incensed by the one-liners, aired at a time when Mandela was critically ill, that he made an official complaint. He commented under one tasteless joke: 'Attacking a 94-year-old man who is probably dying. Does the far right have an ounce of human decency?' ///
wanted to attack the Far Right?
/// Mr Phillips admitted to once being a member of the far-right BNP, but quit 25 years ago. ///
Or was it even over some Miner's memorial?
/// Cllr Jones added that he was 'deeply disturbed' an unofficial Facebook poll over the memorial has allegedly been 'influenced' by the English Defence League. ///
Even if one is disgusted by 'bad taste' jokes, do you think that the police went a little over the top on this one?
But it all seems obvious to me that the councillor was out to get this joker no matter what.

A nice big headline and then the real meat is buried down the article where they hope their readers are too lazy to find it and work it out
//He was one of two men interviewed by police following a bitter, ill-tempered feud over plans for a mining memorial in the town centre has been ambushed by some members of the Far Right and used as a propaganda platform.//
//The other individual was pensioner and former miner Tom Christopher, 72, who was quizzed by police at his home in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, over claims he issued threats on the net.//
See what's actually going on here?
The police are investigating allegations of internet harassment and threatening behaviour
He then sent the Sunday Mercury - a Birmingham-based newspaper - screen grabs.
//One was of a shocking image of decapitation, another featuring a wheelchair-bound individual, both posted by Mr Phillips.//
Still think this is PC gone mad about some Nelson Mandela jokes?
If you must read the Mail - read the whole article and think about it a bit - stop letting them lead you around by the nose

Thanks, AOG, and 'Season's Greetings' to you. Dog is a Bobtail, an outdated name now since its illegal to bob the tail of an Old English, but far too happy and outgoing for anyone calling themselves a Puli !
And if you knew how non-technical I am, and how I had to get a friend to load my existing avatar, you would never wonder why I haven't changed mine, not, in fact, that I would be minded to do so

You may be non technical as regards producing an Avatar as I am regarding Old English Sheepdogs, and what is a Puli?
/// As you see, AOG, it worked the second time ///
No it was a different image the first one although similar must have been copyright.
Incidentally I never mentioned a "worthy body" you did, that is why it made your remarks sound sarcastic.

There you are AOG. Heaven knows why the first one pictured has bows on; my guess is that it had been bathed recently, it was to be shown in the ring and the bows were part of its grooming, but odd even so. My avatar is of a white one. I owned a black one called Fred.

O I thought it was ancient Greek - pule
meaning a gateway - in this case Fred a gateway to legal wisodm
(wh a lot of us dont have)
He's got apoint - is it lawful to knock on someones door with a warrant about dirty Nelson jokes when the intention is to search the computer for something else ?
It means lying to a JP dunnit or am I in the nineteenth century.
and I am afraid after the recent events,
people will say: o the police will say anything - black is white just look at plebgate !
and I think officials are gonna have to start saying - yeah I see what you mean the evidence is on your side.

Peter , there's a whole line of cases about police going to a house for one reason and then finding evidence , stolen goods, say, which was nothing to do with their original purpose, with warrant or not. "Evidence unfairly obtained" is the line. It doesn't seem cricket to charge someone when you just made a social call, but cricket itself has changed and the judges generally have taken the view that such evidence is usable and admissible.
