Word and Outlook underlining everything

Help! I've just acquired a friend's computer and when I send emails through Outlook (2003) it underlines everything. Even if I reformat it, when I look in "sent items" the underlining has come back!
Also when I go to type a new Word doc the default font is underlined. How do I reset the Normal template?

It works to take off the underlining, yes, but it doesn't stop emails going out underlined. When I compose a new email my signature is underlined and it carries on from there!
I've managed to change the Normal.dot which I thought would fix it as Word is the text editor for Outlook, but this hasn't stopped Outlook misbehaving.
