CAn you just imagine a top NHS consultant being "sacked" for not working weekends?
Even in the unlikely eventuality that he would agree......he would want " more money on the table."

The first sacking would bring a call for consultants resignations from the NHS which may or may not work. Could the politicians risk this.

Many areas in many specialities have just one consultant....do you want him/her to work 24/7?

He needn't work 24-7 as long as I don't need his services at the weekend

My neighbour needed a procedure in a private hospital but they didn't have the right equipment so the consultant said " Never mind will send you down to the NHS and I'll do it there. " W

i have just had a ultrasound scan on a sunday, in a private clinic, referred by the surgery, presumably because its quicker so some obviously are open, not sure there needs to be a consultant on for an MRI scan, not until the results need to be analysed.
