Major ice storm here in the Toronto area. 0ver 300.000 people with no hydro. Here's shot from a friend's balcony. I should have used a tripod, but I think you'll get the picture. At the top you can see part of Lake Ontario.

I don't use my car much, so what I have will outlast this "emergency".

I was in Plattsburgh, New York a month after the ice storm in 1998… place looked like a war zone with all the trees either down or the tops broken out. Even 60 days later there were electrical crews from as far away as South Carolina assisting in getting the service back… ya'll can surely develop a tremendous amount of ice around the Lakes… Take care!

stewey, I have a cousin that lives in the Vancouver area, the last few years he has taken to spending the winter months down in Arizona USA.

My friend is in Ayr, Ontario. Was quite surprised when her phone died in mid-call a few hours ago; no power. She doesn't expect power back on for a goodly while either. She is blaming wet soil, loosening the roots beforehand, and quantities of ice in the branches, coupled with wind, for trees falling; she could here them falling around the neighbourhood; and bringing down power lines.

We consider ourselves really fortunate as our hydro came on at 9:30 Sunday morning. My sister, who lives about 15 miles away, still has no power, and a friend of mine who lives three blocks away is in the same position. All to do with the grid system I suppose. Came across a lot of fallen trees on the way home...but I didn't trip over them:)
