The only way you will get fertility tests done at this stage is to go private, and I suspect you will still be told to keep trying for a while longer.
Below is a quote from a fertillity website which gives you more detailed information according to your age. I hope this helps and is more reassuring than people trying to tell you something is wrong, because you really have nothing to worry about yet.
...'Most of the time, if you are under the age of 35, a doctor will not even begin any type of fertility treatment until you have tried to conceive for 1 year. Of course, depending upon how determined you are, you could potentially approach a doctor at 3 to 6 months should you suspect a problem. If you are between 35 and 40 years of age, a doctor will usually want you to try for a good 6 months. If you are over 40, a doctor will probably start testing and treatments as early as 3 months, if not right away. '

It took me 4 years to fall with my second child and another 4 years to fall with my third. However I then went on to have another baby 17 months later and my fifth was born 19 months later than that. Sometimes thing just take time.
It is such a small precise window when you can actually get pregnant and so every thing has to be just right. As a rule of thumb, provided you try at least every 2 or 3 days, you should have some success, but sometimes it just takes time.
BTW, have you recently come off the pill? sometimes it can take up to 2 years to begin ovulating properly again after taking the pill for an extended period of time. But the other posters are right, 6 months is not really long at all in the eyes of the medical profession, it's only 6 cycles after all. You normally get referred after 12 months, more commonly after 18 months.
