The first televised tournament with a 147 maximum was the 1979 Lada Classic in Warrington, when John Spencer performed the magic feat - it was not televised, however: the camera crew were enjoying refreshments at the time! Steve Davis completed the first televised 147 at the same tournament in 1982, although it was not recognised as an 'official' stat. because the table did not conform to competition rules. The first 'recognised' maximum break was therefore Cliff Thorburn at the Embassy Championship in 1983.
