Just to add,
The IP address is assigned to your computer by whatever server it connects to. If you're at home, it'll be your ISP's server at the other end of the phone line. (If you have a router, you'll have an internal and external IP.)
So as above, this will change depending where you're connecting from.
All network devices also have a MAC address, which is (meant to be) unique to your laptop; your wifi card will have one, as will your bluetooth chipset, ethernet chipset, etc.
