i have liver complaint, must watch my alcohol intake which i am tryoing my very best to keep to a minimum. i asked my doctor was milk thistle good, he told me my liver was damaged and there is nothing can repair it . ok , so im also trying to lay off too much coffee, tea with its anti oxident properties is a much better option , right ? was looking on youtube and ive heard that avocado/asparagus is good for healthy liver function.

the reason why i am asking on here is to see if there are any of you guys out there who have liver complaints and to hear your expirience, i can google as much as i like but i want to know about you who have liver problems whether through alcoholism, hepititis b/c , hiv, cancer, etc etc etc

thankyou BTW tea is better than coffee right ?

had 4 beer today, ate a small meal and poured the rest down the sink, it helps to eat something , so it fills you up then you cannot be bothered feeling blotted .

as they say...tomorrow is a new day.
"Take it a day at a time" was what I was told. Rubbish! I could never go a whole day without a drink. But I could go for five minutes, just! The trick was to say to myself "I think I'll have a drink, just now. Maybe in a few minutes" If you can do that, you are winning the battle, because you are not saying "I'll never drink again". But all you have to do is go another few minutes; in my case they've totalled 13 years, all in 5 minutes !
cuppa soups fill void space & food value without fattening.

Tis hard to break lifetime habits but your little girl is safest only with you as her daddy.
Thats a wonderful method Fred, will try it with ciggies ;)
Beez are you taking any antiretroviral drugs for your HIV? A healthy liver is important for the body to process some antiretroviral medicines effectively. The blood fat increases caused by some anti-HIV drugs can be made worse by heavy drinking. Do yourself a big favour and try Fred's method; it might just work for you and you've got to help yourself hard as it is.

I found that saying that worked gradually so that I began not to think of a drink in 5 minutes. Without realising it, I didn't think of a drink for an hour, then longer. Eventually , after quite a while , I was habituated so I didn't obsessively think about it.

But, if you want to avoid temptation overcoming you, remember H. A. L. T, (Halt) !

That is: never get Hungry, never get Angry, never get Lonely, never get Tired. Anyone one of those makes you vulnerable. Two of them makes you very vulnerable. Three means it may be too late. Four means, Hell, you are taking a drink and can't work out why! Once you take that drink, you'll start again, and you can't stop. And then you are back where you started, a very frightening thought
My sister swears by Milk Thistle, though results/data are inconclusive:

I have also heard too that Milk thistle is good for your liver even if you are not an alcoholic. I am pleased for you Beez that you want to sort this for you and I admire you for it. I wish you all the best in giving up which is the best advice.

A close member of my family was an alcoholic. If you can find last Thursday's Daily Mail anywhere 16th there was a very good article pg 49 - written by Virginia Ironside who's mum was an alcoholic. I would say she was telling it as it is. "Why children never get over the trauma of seeing their parents drunk". It was brillant (speaking from experience) but I would say covered stuff nobody wants to talk about so brace yourself as you are unlikely to like what it says and it might be you relate yourself to what is in it like I did. If I find it on-line I'll post for you beez.

As others have said if allowed the chance the liver is good at renewing itself. I heard of a person who was in hospital with a very poor state liver. Just being in there for some weeks without alcohol really improved his liver. No treatment just abstinence. I also understand that 6 weeks without is all it takes to let it recover. Having just typed all this I have decided to give my liver a holiday. So will not drink now until March. and after that much less. you have to find something to take its place in your routine and dont buy any.
