Tribute Acts

Do you enjoy tribute acts or do they make you feel nostalgic for the "real" thing.
Let It Be is coming to a local theatre and I love the Beatles music but don't know how good it will be, I loved Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack but can't imagine how they can be done justice, any views from anyone who has been to these shows!

mojo; i fell in love with Gabriel in the early 70's - and i mean that in a very manly way, of course - when Phil Collins knew his rightful place (at the back on his drums). I've not seen any PG tribute acts.

PS; actually PC WAS one of the best drummers around at that time. Not in the John Bonham league, but he could 'keep the beat'.

I can`t say I would seek out tribute bands but I saw an Abba one because they were at a music festival. Not only did they not sound like Abba but it was funny listening to them introducing the songs in phoney Swedish accents (they`re Australian).

OH went to see an Australian Pink Floyd tribute band last year, and said they were brilliant. Can't remember the name though.

There`s a Thai Elvis down at Patpong in Bangkok who does really well and people love him but that is probably because they are pretty pissed when they go in his bar.

Ken I saw PG in 1986 and it's still the best gig I have ever been to.
The tribute guy put on a pretty good show of it imo.

As much as I love Queen's music. I've never being tempted to see 'We will Rock you' its simply not my thing.

The Illegal Eagles are a fantastic Eagles tribute band. Haven't ever seen the original band, but the tribute is good enough for me, very true to the sound of the Eagles. Coming to a town near you!

I saw them at Newmarket Racecourse lankeela, I was a bit pissed and thought they were the real ones

It's very easy to sound like the originals now. There are downloadable 'patches' to plug into guitar pedals and synths which recreate the authentic sound of a particular instrument/amp/speaker combination for thousands of songs.

Went to a local pub that had a tribute act to Rod Stewart. When he came on he looked more like a tubby Elton John. Looked nothing like Rod, so disappointing.

I saw a Pink Floyd tribute band called "Echoes" a few times and thought they were great, "Dave Gilmour"s voice wasn't always as it should have been but that didn't bother me as PF are never going to re-unite :-(
I eagerly await seeing local band (to me) called "Hoaxwind" especially as I've seen the real Hawkwind many times.

The TRex tribute band are TRextasy. They won a TV Battle Of The Tribute Bands about 15 years ago.

I am too much of a purist to really enjoy tributes, but I fully accept that loads of people are not as picky as me, and an approcimation of a band they like will do just fine.

On my recent cruise holiday, The Beatles Experience were on board, doing two sets, early and later Beatles and they were really good - the later Beatles material was not written with a view to live performance, they were a studio band by then so to do these songs well was not easy. I would go and see this band again, but had they played locally before seeing them on the ship, it's unlikely I would have gone along.

Plaigarism is shamelessly borrowing from a source, this is simply imitgation, which is not the same thing.
