According to the BBC website Steven Gerrard has made a "huge donation" to the Hillsborough Family Support Group. According to Google he earns £125,000 per week so he has donated less than 80% of a week's salary, let alone including his endorsement income or bonuses. Am I the only one who thinks this isn't really that generous?

Sounds pretty generous to me.
he is not the only player others have got away more , it is just a case of money paid quickly and signature to promise to not say anything
Cathyhuns...I would be interested in how much YOU have contributed to the Hillsborough Family Support Group ?
as stated he doesn't have to give anything - what have all the other players given?
what about all the players over the 20-odd years since?

its a support group, not a proper charity in the usual sense , and its still a substantial amount for them.

he may donate again in the future

//Cathy, probably not the only shallow person who thinks its generous. Its a symbolic amount in order to keep the cause going.and of course its Derby day up here.

The cause is one of the things that unites Merseysiders from both sides and from both sides of the Mersey and beyond
He also had a relative who was an unfortunate victim.

So in future it may be a good idea to keep your thoughts to yourself on such issues //

Well said Steve.
I would imagine that it's not the only charity he supports.
Mind you, is some way short of the 3 million pounds that Didier Drogba donated from his Pepsi sponsorship money towards the building of a hospital.

steve think there are a few things the police would like to forget
Whatever your opinion of Steven Gerard is, you cannot fail to agree that £96,000 is a vast sum of money. Therefore it is hugely generous of him.
well said ken
Gerard - his money, his choice of charity, this is one heck of a nit-picking thread that borders on the bad taste wing. Gerard is also a Liverpool supporter....

I also agree with the questions asking Cathyhuns how much has she given in percentage terms. Bet she isn't a Liverpool fan, just a shyte stirrer.
// do you think they printed a some extra tickets or lot turned up and got in with no tickets //

There were very few if any forged tickets. A small number turned up without tickets. A count of how many were in that end when the disaster began found it contained the correct amount of supporters, but they were not evenly didtributed. The two end pens were half full and the middle pens had twice as many as they should have had. That suggests a failure of stewarding.

// Perhaps they'll pass some of it on to those people in Belgium. //

Ouch. Nasty.

14 people were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and went to prison for 3 years each for heir involement in the Heysel riot. Justice was seen to be done. Hillsborough lingers because the 96 dead didn't get justice, just a cover up.
As was said earlier, he did not have to give anything. I am sure the support group will be appreciative.
