i had heard of him and seen him in a number of films, thought he was a fine actor.

I am angry that so much publicity has been given to this man who apparently has died through self inflicted drug use when I know three people who have died in the past year who would have given their right arm for the chance to live. No doubt his family are devastated, but so are the families of my friends and his death could have been avoided - no-one made him take the drugs and if he was so successful (never heard of him personally) then he could have afford professional help, while one of my friends died because the NHS refused to pay for her treatment.

he is an American actor, and whilst i have every sympathy with your friends, there would be little correlation between these people.

and he did seek help, it just seems that addiction just doesn't go away for some people.

lankeela, he was in the news when he died because he was in the news when he was alive. He did have professional help. The death of your friends is sad; but there's no point in turning your anger on an American actor. Life isn't fair.

I'm with lankeela on this, he was just another overpaid celebrity whose net worth to humanity was pretty close to zero, supporting as he did the illegal drugs trade. Like most of his showbiz colleagues who have gone the same way he will probably be forgotten next week. I know many ordinary people who have far more worth even though they don't have an oscar.
