ford escort lights problem
Can anyone help me? I own a 1996 Ford Escort GhiaX which seems to have developed a electrical fault. When the interior lights are on, no problem but when I close the door and when the interior lights are off, the main beam lights come on even when the igintion is off.

The Escort is also prone to earth problems so it may be worth cleaning the poins were the negative lead comes of the battery and maks contact to the vehilces body.
I wouold adivse getting and auto electiriction to look at the fuse boxs as they are tricky to do id you have little expirence and are not cheap
The problems started about half a year ago with the dashboard clock. The problem was the minute hand "flies" round, as though it is a second hand. It completes 12 hours in around 15 mins. Turn the ignition on and it's fine. Then the red LED for the immobiliser status stopped working. I decided to swap the clock for another from the scrap yard, but the problem was still there. Failing to resolve the problem, I decided to just live with it.
Now I have another problem. If I turn the interior light on, so that it comes on when you open the door, when the door is closed, the light on the heated rear screen button illuminats, open the door and it goes off. Turning the interior light off completely solves this problem.
I'm guessing there is either a loose earth wire somewhere, or something to do with the Fuse Board as previously mentioned. A job for the summer I guess.
