Broadband Download Limits

I've recently signed up to Broadband. The package (pipex) has a 1GB download limit. How do I find out how much I've used? Will I be informed I am going over the limit or will it just let me carry on? And as for billing, how will I find out how much I've been charged if usual payments are by direct debit - will I have to check my bank account every month for this?

"When using broadband you transfer data to and from your computer, this is called downloading and uploading and this is measured in Gigabytes (GB). With PIPEX Start the amount of data transferred is monitored and can be seen by logging into MyPIPEX. 1GB is included per month but you can go over this limit if you wish and you will automatically get another 3GB for �2.70 (90p per GB). The 1GB allowance is allocated to you at the start of your billing period (not calendar month). If it is not used by the end of your billing period it is lost. If you have purchased additional GB then this is carried forward until it is used up. 1GB is more than adequate for an occasional user of broadband."
The banking rules for direct debits require that any company taking money from your account must inform you prior to doing so. I assume therefore, that Pipex will send you an e-mail if they intend to charge you the extra �2.70.
