Why do supermarkets sell their own baked bread in perforated plastic bags? While sliced bread comes in normal plastic bags. What purpose does it serve apart from making the bread go stale more quickly, meaning you have to buy more loaves. Ta
I would say that is exactly the reason, condensation from bread produced by in-store bakeries. I think also though that it possible goes staler quicker due to less preservatives?
Your both correct, putting warm bread in a sealed bag would make it sweat which would result in it getting wet and yes its goes stale quickly due to the low amount of preservatives, however it does have some unlike french bread which is basically only good for a day or two at most.
Ahhhah, it all makes sense now. I really did thinks it was a cynical ploy! Maybe I should transfer the bread to a normal bag when I get home. Thanks each!
