just watched the speedskating, where english people got bronze, silver and gold, and they played Land of Hope and Glory for the english national anthem. I thought God Save the Queen was the national anthem?

I think that God Save the Queen is the British anthem and so can't be played for England, though how this fits with our Rugby and Football teams I don't know. There have been many a discussion on AB as to what should be the English National Anthem.

Wales, Scotland, Northen Ireland, Isle of Man, Gurnsey and Jersay all have teams, and our British National anthem is God Save the Queen. I bet the Cornish are spitting feathers

It's not Majjan that is being arrogant, The trouble with you English people is that you thing the Royal Family is the English Royal Family when in fact it BRITISH. GSTQ is NOT English it's Brittish and the sooner you English lot reaslied that the better

majjan...i think youll find that the cornish will be spitting pasties not feathers. And the reason that they havent got some level of independance is because 1. the idea is laughable and 2. the only people who care about this are crazy cornish folk who still speak the ancient cornish/celt dialect and no [edited by AB] else can understand them...and before you start im from the westcountry myself and have grown up listening to this nonsense on the local news.

ok, didnt mean to trigger an arguement. it was an honest, innocent, probably stupid question. tbh, i dont give a **** about england or the royal family. i was just asking.

and trojanforce, thanks for pointing out the slightly more stupid mistake than royal families and cornish people. i did mean cycling. but i was thinking speedcycling, and wrote the wrong thing. doh!

For the record I'm a Welsh speaking nationalist who believes that Britain is great because we can all celebrate our individual identities.


And to isca when English is probably the most powerful language on the planet why are you so threatened by bilinguals? Britain's minority languages are an integral part of our culture and heritage, try to develop some respect and admiration as we do for yours, by also speaking English and partaking of your culture.

Majjan are you taking the p*ss? Threatened by bilinguals? there are about three people in Cornwall who speak cornish and as far as im concerned they can have as much independence as they like, the point is just not economically feasable.

And for the record im from devon and i have many cornish friends and i dont think any one of them has ever mentioned cornish independance to me in all the time ive known them. Ive shown no disrespect to the welsh or their culture at any point, the traditional cornish language has very few similarities to welsh or gaelic for that matter, it has developed very much on its own lines.
