Can you get money back from a bank

If money paid by cheque has bee fraudulently obtained by a third party can the bank try to reclaim in on behalf of the payer? I wrote a cheque as a deposit for something and now I can't get hold of the people to do the work. I think they've done a runner.

No you can't reclaim it through your bank unfortunately.
