It's my son's birthday next week and he's asked me to make a Black Forest Gateau (God knows where he got the idea from), anyway do you think the tins of cherry pie filling would suffice as a filling for it?

Thanks :)

sorry, no
No idea Rocky.

But I have made this successfully before:-

How old is your son? BFG normally has cherries soaked in kirsch, so if he is a child, then pie filling is a good substitute.
Personally I would nip into Waitrose and ask that nice lady at the cakes counter if she can get one for me.
Apparently, yes! ;-)

However it might not be a good idea to simply use them, in place of the regular ingredients, in other recipes. For example, this recipe specifically states "This cake should not be overly sweet which is why you should never use cherry pie filling in place of the cherries in this recipe":

Thanks Barmaid :) I'm struggling to get a jar of Morello cherries.

Carole, he probably thinks he's being a smartarse hoping I'll put some booze in it.
Sainsburys or Waitrose, Rocky.

They're a bit of a trot from here, we have Tosco. I might have to bite the bullet and get there, if not I'll go with Buen's first link :)

Thanks all

Forget jars and try the frozen food section in Asda:

Didn't think about frozen ones, I'll see if our Tesco has them (Asda miles away)

Thanks
Barmaid, that Delia recipe is one of the most amazing things I've ever made and relatively easy. I'd not use pie filling but I did find jars of cherries hard to find, there used to be Krakus jars, have they stopped doing them?
