I am a vegetarian. However a lot of the recepies that I come across contains egg. I am afraid, I don't even consume eggs. Wonder if anybody can suggest an alternative I could use. ie. even making a simple pastry requires an egg. I can't even make a start.

you don't need egg to make pastry

If you search for vegan recipes in Google there are thousands.

You definitely don't need eggs to make shortcrust pastry as dankeith says, eggs can be used in sweet pastry but shortcrust is just as good in sweet things

My Grandma used to use a tablespoon of vinegar if she didn't have eggs!
for cakes, that is
In certain recipes egg is used for binding the other ingredients together, but natural youghurt might be a substitute option. I must admit, I've never tried it but can't imagine why it wouldn't work as it does have a similar kind of stickiness.
