Golly, I am watching this and the historians keep comparing him to Prince Charles and saying about Prince Charles waiting for the Queen to die. One of them said that Bertie is quoted as saying that "Everyone has an Eternal Father; I have an eternal mother too" and then he said "which is something that Prince Charles might say" talk about open gob insert foot...I hope the Queen has got a sense of humour!

The big, big difference between them is that Victoria always blamed Bertie (later Edward VII) for the death of her beloved Prince Albert, so she never ever allowed him access to any state papers or procedures. No wonder that he had so little respect for her, or for her judgment.

of course we don't know what Prince Charles has access to...I just thought that the continual harping on the similarities was a bit unsubtle.
