Mobile phone unlocking

I have seen a gooddeal on a Nokia 2220 mobile on O2.

I want to use it on a different network - can it definitely be unlocked?

It's alright everyone, you can stop worrying now.

It turns out that most O2 mobiles are not locked, and lo and behold my new one isn't.
