Grrrrrrr - Wont Repair!!

Help : (
I bought my son a KOBO tablet from WHSmiths 16 months ago. The screen has cracked and I knew I would have to pay to repair it as its over the 12 month warranty which is fine. I spoke to KOBO on the phone and they asked me to send photos of the damage so they could advise how best to proceed. They have then emailed me saying it is cracked( yes I know that!) and its out of warranty so they cant help or repair. Ive replied saying I know that and im happy to pay but they just keep sending me the same email saying there is no way of repairing it or replacing the screen. I find that very hard to believe. They are basically saying that once the screen has cracked then tough luck. Anybody got any bright ideas?? TIA xx

This all sounds very bad to me, I'm unimpressed. Suggests that if it were under warranty all they would manage is a replacement. But they must have new screens somewhere in the world to make more e-readers.
